I’ve been wanting to start a blog for a while now. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about starting it, talking about starting it, tinkering with the layout (and that was hard because I am basically a computer-dummy), and now, writing it. Is anyone actually going to read what I write on here? Maybe. Well….my mom will read it (Hi Mom!). Regardless, I do have a purpose to starting this, and here it is:
Deciding to be a mom was one the very best decision that I have ever made (second only to marrying Pierre), and I want to share that. The time spent being home with my boys goes by so fast. Ok….let’s rephrase that….actual days can seem endless (and there are definitely times when I call Pierre at work, and tell him not to dare come home without wine. Or chocolate. Or both!!), but still each day, each week, seems to be going by faster and faster. I blinked and my youngest went from being a baby to turning three years old this coming Tuesday. And the next time I blink he’ll be thirty-three! With time flying by, I need a record that this all is happening at all. I need to write down all the funny, crazy, amazing, lovable, insane, naughty things that my boys do. And I need to do this because if I don’t, I’ll forget all those amazing moments in the craziness of my every day-to-day. And in forgetting them, I won’t be grateful for them either. Maybe in writing down some of those little moments, I can make time stop (or at least slow-down) just a little. Think about it, how often has your kid done something great and you’ve though, “geez, I need to write that down”. Then, something distracts you, you don’t and that great thing that kiddo did is forgotten. For instance, the other day, Nicholas was driving me nuts while I was trying to make dinner, so I sent him on a treasure hunt asking him to “bring me something green, bring me something purple and black”, and so one. Finally, running out of colors, I asked him to find me something French. Little smarty-pants pointed to Pierre. Clever, eh? Worth writing down, right? There it is.
Let’s face it. Kids are funny. Parents are funny. And the mistakes that we make together can be pretty darn funny too. If you can't laugh at yourself, then feel free to laugh at me. I promise to share some recipes (Yum! Food!) to go with the laughter. And maybe someone reading this (someone? ANYONE???) will share something laughable with me. Besides, being a parent is tough…it takes a village and all that. And isn’t a blog kind of an extension of that village?
Finally, blogging is therapy. I tend to stress (gasps of shock!) a lot, and I’m not always so great about expressing my opinion. Oh, I have opinions, but they tend to bounce around aimlessly like little pinballs in my head, hitting all the stress buttons. A good, and much wiser, friend told me that the older she gets, the less she stresses about the unimportant things. I’m not there yet, but I’m working on it. So, let’s say that taking the leap to get my thoughts out there, for all to see, will be therapeutic (once I get over how terrifying putting myself on “paper” actually is).
So, here it is. Just one more mommy blog, but it’s mine. It’s for my boys. Maybe one day they’ll read it, and know that I didn’t forget all those little moments.
