This conversation took place a few minutes ago:
“Mommy? My feet are cold,” said Nicholas.
“That’s because you aren't wearing socks,” I replied. “Go put your socks on, and your feet won’t be cold.”

“Mommy? My feet are cold,” said Nicholas.
“That’s because you aren't wearing socks,” I replied. “Go put your socks on, and your feet won’t be cold.”
Side note: Nicholas despises socks. He never wears them. He says socks make his feet sweat, and that they cause him to slip when he runs (STOP RUNNING IN THE HOUSE). The minute that Nicholas comes in our door – or anyone else’s – he immediately takes off his socks. He would wear his winter-boots without socks, if I let him. We now have an agreement that he can remove his socks as long as he goes upstairs and puts them on his bed, right away. He also isn't allowed to switch pairs throughout the day, unless the first pair gets wet. And he can’t steal his brother’s socks, either. I have washed more Nicholas’ socks, and have more unmatched pairs belonging to Nicholas, than for Pierre, Benjamin and me combined. Drive me crazy! I've blogged before about my little Sock Monster and his return.
Nicholas made a face, “I don’t like socks (told ya!). Could you turn-up the heat, please?”
Get real kid, I thought. “No, I’m not turning-up the heat (It’s been cold here this week. Our heat pump is already working overtime). GO PUT YOUR SOCKS ON.”
Nicholas thought about this a minute, “Okay. Could we go outside and play in the snow?”
Huh?
Benjamin piped-up from the kitchen table, where he was working on Lego, “Nicholas’ feet are cold, but he wants to play in the snow? I don’t get it.”
Me neither, kid. Me neither.
As I write this, the boys are arguing about who is the bigger Sock Monster. Nicholas just told Ben that he can be the Stinky-Sock Monster. Ben replied that Nicholas can be the Underwear Monster. Nicholas seemed to be okay with that.
